Piggy goes to England…

Day 1: 21st April 2022 – Gibraltar to Campillos, Spain

Am leaving Gib today for the return journey home via Santander. What with cleaning the flat etc. I don’t get on the road until almost 2pm so a bit of a late start. Our good friend Jill takes a few photos as I depart

The weather is glorious, warm, and very sunny. I decide to take the scenic route up towards Cordoba. First section is via the coast road as far as Manilva then turning left onto the A-377 up into the mountains to Gaucin.

The main comment on this section I guess is that it’s extremely windy… I mean what’s new with a Pogs Tour.. either honking it with rain and/or hurricane force winds.. I might exaggerate a little.

Then onto the A-369 to one of my favourite places, Rhonda.

I almost decide to stop here for the night, but, once out of the high wind section, I am really enjoying the ride so decide to continue further. Up and over the Sierras, some challenging bends and gorgeous views

Entering Gaucin

Continuing down into the plains I eventually decide to stop at Campillos for the night.

Checking out the weather and it really does not bode well for tomorrow, so I am probably going to head straight for the autoroute and stay on that. I don’t think riding in heavy rain is enjoyable at the best of times, but especially when trying to drag Piggy round hairpins.. no thanks!

Again I have booked a traditional Spanish hostel and it’s great.. another huge room and very comfortable too. I enjoy an early dinner and mooch around the town square, it is very picturesque indeed.
