Day 6 – DMV

Am up early so I can get to the DMV and then on the road early, am really looking forward to starting the journey. OMG I can’t get the luggage on the bike, there’s just too much of it! I’ll have to get a rack at least. I did want some saddle bags but the …

Day 5 – B Day

Am very excited as today is the day I pick up my new bike and start the great adventure. I have been in correspondence with Rick at Bayside Harley Davidson in Portsmouth Virginia for about 3 months and he couldn’t have been more helpful or accommodating. After much deliberation and anxiety on my part, I …

Day 3/4 – The Writing is on the Wall

Before I begin todays adventures, I forgot to add the following photo and tour guide factoid yesterday.  This is the Willard Intercontinental Hotel and the story goes that President Ulysees S Grant would come here each day for a cigar and whiskey or two as Mrs G disapproved, (good girl).  As he entered the lobby …

During the night there is a bit of a swell but I am awoken by a loud bang from the lower decks.. of course I starting imagining my bike flying through the air, crashing into the other bikes or indeed the side of the ship, ridiculous I know.  I can also hear a bike alarm …

A very pleasant day… mmm

By the time I have got myself sorted out, shower, brekkie etc. am finally on the road by 10am. It’s not so hot today, only 80F and much more pleasant to ride in.  Am hoping to cover 300 miles today, 100 mile chunks at a time so I top up the petrol before I leave. Am …

Flew to Gibraltar this morning… early… up at 2am and made my way to Gatwick airport to catch the flight at 6.20. Arrived at the apartment block and down to visit with Jill and John.  It was John’s 85th birthday last Friday so was very pleased to be able to give him his card and …

All Change….

Yep, forget what I said in the last post, an object lesson in not counting one’s chickens!! After making the decision to ship my Fatboy via HC-Travel it turns out that the major stumbling block is insurance. But I’m jumping ahead…  Having made the decision to ship my Fatboy to Baltimore I went ahead …

Time to make a plan…

Just had a reply from CFR Rinkens in the States.  They will ship the bike from Savannah to Algeciras in Spain, just 6 miles from the border with Gibraltar.  Unfortunately it will cost £1,500 plus my flights etc. to pick it up, so still not really viable… the return on the investment just wouldn’t cover …
